Does anyone still visit this place? I do from time to time, in the vain hope that this game might yet still kick-off some day…


Hi all, Im Danny's friend, Martin. Your site, the rules and the maps Ive seen look very impressive. I hope you get this game going at some point, I'll check in from time to time. Im half Polish so if theres any chance of that nation, that would be great.

I had to work 21 hours yesterday so am not good for much.

I am not happy with the performance of the forum or the lousy RSS feed. It fails to work 90% of the time. So I think we are going to have to end up with either a Google or Yahoo! group for actual email posting. I prefer Google integrated stuff but most everyone is familiar with Yahoo! so I will probably go with Yahoo!.

I regret this since I would like to keep everything on one site…and I like this forum layout……..but if the RSS feed doesn't work EVERY time…..then we gotta do it separate.

The wiki site will be the main informational repository and the Yahoo! group would be just for communications. I have let this site owner know that they need to get integrated email lists in wikidot and maybe someday that will happen.

This weekend I hope to work on the Asia map. It is a real pain. I had one partially done and ended up losing it when PaintShopPro blew up. That took away my fire to continue.

After that I have to add those to the database and a little cleanup work. Then I have to make some budget decisions and maybe then we will be ready for a Beta test.

Yes, its invitation only since its a wiki. I approved that application. I would say 10 would plenty for a beta start.

I believe we can easily gather up 10 good players between us. With how many players do you wish to start? Also: I passed this site on to a friend of mine, but for some reason, he could not sign up as the site kept asking him for a secret password. Is this website invitation only (I have a bit of a shaky memory and can't remember how I joined myself…)

It will be a bit. I still have Asian map and database stuff. I am not sure how much interest there is going to be in it anyway….lots of other games going on right now.

any Idea when game start may be…. ???

Added more nations to the database and have relations tables set up for all nations so far. All African, European, North American nations entered I think. The biggie will be Asia and some additions on South America.

As always, it is the great struggle between Realism and Playability. If you say that the different stances and different costs are easy to process with the database, then by all means: They are a welcome addition. If in the end, the extra isn't worth the trouble, rules such as these can also easily be scrapped without seriously changing the style of play, or throwing players off guard.

Yep i beleive if a player has a good idea or add-on's and makes for a faster and perhaps a bit better then the Gm will consider adding it to the rules or at least to take it into account…

with a totaly new timeline to follow perhaps the players will not start with a auto-mindset as sometimes happens with certain nations….

Tonight I created a database table for military unit types….and a database table for units. I put in our currently existing units that Zak provided. I wanted to test out the unit table so I figured we for sure would have each nation with 1 infantry division as garrison in its capital city. So I threw a database query together and generated all that in about 30 seconds. The database is VERY helpful.

During this process I came up with a couple of things:

1) I added a range attribute to military unit types for combat use. For instance our current artillery has a range of two, infantry one. That is an important combat concept and benefit of artillery.
2) I added a training value, or unit experience value…GREEN, ELITE, blah, blah, all the standard ones
3) I added a unit "stance" value for each…this will have values like "GARRISON", "ASSAULT". "DEFENSE", "PATROL", "ALERT", "COUNTER-INSURGENCY", "MOTHBALL" etc. I haven't figured them all out yet. These can be used in combat and in figuring out surprise, etc. For instance, if you have 3 units in a COUNTER-INSURGENCY stance and an invader pushes in with three units in "ASSAULT"….they would have an advantage. I am incorporating this so that there is a more of a chess game with what you do with your units. You may have an insurgency AND an invasion threat….which one do you face?
4) I am rethinking unit maintenance. I may charge just a base rate for unit maintenance and then charge additional for movement and for stance changes or for different stances (example: GARRISON would be cheaper than PATROL). I am considering this route because those are things I would have to process and I like charging for things that I have to process.

I want to avoid getting this too complicated because complexity adds processing time and pain. But I believe with the database that these will probably be relatively minor in terms of added processing. Something like "stance" is a simple concept to implement, interpret, and charge for on the GM end yet adds depth and decision-making on the player end. This is the sort of game element I appreciate more than number-crunching.

FeedBlitz changed the feed number which I have fixed. So the subscriptions should work again.

The way it works is you get only a digest version of forum posts. That might be good enough, I dunno. The digest does not seem to have poster identity so it is hard to follow. I think that is a problem with the Wikidot feed and not FeedBlitz though. For now that seems the only option.

I am going to update the leaders and a little bit of histories as I get time. Most of my history thinking has been with North America and a bit on Africa. I have not done much thinking on South America, Europe, or Asia. I am going to start developing maps for those when I get time, but just because something is on maps, or the pages, does not mean that its not a candidate for being changed if something better is thought up.
